What a week adds to a daily ranking

A 24-hour ranking is dominated by whatever happened this morning. Seven days is long enough to separate a single spike from a move that held. An asset that is up 12% today and down 25% on the week is bouncing inside a decline; one that is up 12% today and up 40% on the week has been rising for days.

Use the direction switch to turn the table from gainers to losers. The two lists together show how wide the week’s spread was, which says more about risk than either list alone.

How the weekly figure is built

Exchange tickers report a 24-hour window, not a weekly one. So the collector keeps its own reference: the first snapshot of each UTC day, taken within minutes of 00:00 UTC, is stored as that day’s base. The 7-day change compares the current price with the base from seven days earlier.

Two consequences follow, and the page states both instead of hiding them:

  • The window is between seven and eight days long, depending on the time of day you look. The base date above the table tells you where it starts.
  • An asset with no stored base, such as a new listing, has no weekly figure and is left out. Nothing is back-filled from another provider.

Volume and the liquidity floor still refer to the last 24 hours. Details are on the methodology page; check the 24-hour picture on top crypto gainers, top crypto losers, or the volume-weighted crypto heatmap.

Questions and answers

What exactly is the 7-day change?

The current price compared with the price this site stored at its first collection of the UTC day seven days earlier, a few minutes after 00:00 UTC. The base date is printed above the table.

Why does the table sometimes say there is no 7-day ranking yet?

The weekly figure is built from the site’s own stored daily prices. Until seven days of history exist, or if a daily base is missing, the page says so instead of filling the gap with data from elsewhere.

Why do some assets have a 24-hour change but no 7-day change?

An asset listed less than seven days ago, or one that was not trading when the base was stored, has no base price. It is left out of the weekly ranking rather than measured from a different date.

Is the weekly ranking filtered by volume too?

Yes, by the volume of the last 24 hours, with the same $1,000,000 default floor.
