The half of the market a gainers list leaves out
On any given day some assets rise while others fall, and a page that shows only the winners suggests a market that goes one way. Reading the declines next to the advances gives the day’s actual shape: how many assets fell, how far, and on how much trading. The overview on the crypto market overview counts both sides from the same snapshot.
It is also where a recent top gainer can reappear. An asset that rose 40% on a burst of volume can give much of it back within days. This site does not track that for you yet, but checking this table before acting on the top crypto gainers table costs one click.
Reading a decline
- Volume against the 30-day average. A fall on 3× the usual volume had many sellers. A fall on 0.5× may be a quiet drift in a market few people were watching.
- 24h range. If the tick sits at the left end of the rule, the asset is trading at its low of the day. If it sits toward the middle, part of the fall has been recovered.
- Price gap between venues. During sharp falls, prices on Coinbase Exchange and Kraken can separate for a while. A gap well above the usual few hundredths of a percent means the move was still in progress when the snapshot was taken.
A lower price is not a discount. The table reports what happened; whether an asset is worth its price is a different question, which no ranking answers. See the methodology guide for how each figure is computed, read About Gainers Today for sources and disclosures, or report inaccuracies via Contact Gainers Today.
Questions and answers
Why show losers at all?
A page of gainers alone gives a lopsided picture of a market in which many assets fall on the same day. The decline ranking uses the same data, the same floor and the same columns, so the two can be read together.
Does a large drop mean the asset is cheap?
No. A price that fell 30% can fall another 30%. The ranking reports what happened in the last 24 hours and makes no statement about value. Nothing here is investment advice.
Why does the volume filter matter for losers?
On a thin market a single seller can push the last price far below where most trading happened. With the $1M floor on, the declines listed are ones that occurred with meaningful trading behind them.
An asset fell because of news. Why is that not mentioned?
The exchange data carries prices and volumes, not causes. Attributing a move to an event without a source would be guesswork, so the tables show no reason column.
